About Slovenia

Country facts

Slovenia is a central European country of about 2.1 million people, bordering Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia with a short Adriatic coastline. Slovene is the official language and Ljubljana is the capital and main university city.

Higher education system

Slovenian higher education is provided by public and private universities and by independent higher education institutions. Programmes follow the Bologna structure, with professional and academic bachelor’s degrees running in parallel.

  • Recognition of prior education through the ENIC-NARIC centre
  • IELTS 6.0 or equivalent for English-taught programmes
  • Slovene proficiency for Slovene-taught programmes
  • Apostilled and translated documents

Student visa — Slovenia
Apply for a Slovenian temporary residence permit for study at the embassy or in Slovenia. Recognition of your previous qualification is a separate step handled by the ENIC-NARIC centre and should be started early.
