About Finland

Country facts

Finland is a Nordic country of about 5.6 million people, bordering Sweden, Norway and Russia. Finnish and Swedish are official languages, and English is widely spoken. Helsinki is the capital, with Tampere, Turku and Oulu as other major university cities.

Higher education system

Finnish higher education is binary: research universities awarding academic degrees, and universities of applied sciences (ammattikorkeakoulu) delivering professional programmes with compulsory work placements. Both follow the Bologna framework.
