Ireland is an island nation in north-western Europe with about 5.3 million people. English and Irish are the official languages, with English used universally in education. Dublin is the capital, and Cork, Galway and Limerick are significant university cities.

Higher education system

Irish higher education is delivered by universities, technological universities and institutes of technology. Qualifications sit on the National Framework of Qualifications, with taught master’s degrees usually completed in one year.

Admission requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 60–65% or higher for most master's programmes
  • IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or equivalent
  • Statement of purpose explaining course and career fit
  • Two recommendation letters
  • Proof of funds and paid tuition deposit before the visa application
Student visa — Ireland
Apply online through the AVATS system, then submit documents to the Irish embassy. You must generally show tuition paid and around €10,000 available for living costs. Processing takes roughly 4–8 weeks, so apply as soon as you accept your offer.
